Virtual Reality Studio

Virtual Reality Studio

Auckland for Kids visited New Zealand’s first Virtual Reality (VR) Studio in Auckland to see what it was all about.  What is VR? The use of computer technology to create a simulated environment, Instead of viewing a screen, users are immersed and able to interact with 3D worlds.

The VR studio lets you step into fully immersive worlds from swimming, shoot outs, drawing, climbing, flying and more. There is something there to suit everyone, both the kids and the adults. The VR studio was started by Jermaine Leef, Holly White, Robert Le Grice and Shannon Leef to give New Zealanders of all ages the chance to try out high quality VR and be entertained.

You get your own booth, put on the headset choose your game and then your are ready to step into your virtual world. Children under 6 may find it a bit disorientating, so it may be best that you get a shared session if you are going for the first time.

It’s hard to explain what you will actually see, and you are best to try it for yourself. Have a look at the VR Studio’s video below and it will give you a rough idea.

They also have a Retro Room which my younger daughter loved. You can try arcade games from the 70’s, 80’s and 90’s.  Plus you get free use of the retro room when you have had a VR session, so if you are sharing a session the other person still has something to do.

Virtual Reality Studio can be found at 2a/161 Stoddard Road, Mt Roskill, Auckland and is open from Wednesday to Sunday.  You are best to book before you go. For more information see:  virtualrealitystudio.co.nz
