Learning to ride a two-wheeler is one of those big childhood milestones, and being a part of that experience as a parent is a thrill. However, if you are wondering how to get started, or experiencing a few bumps along the way check out the #Learn2Ride sessions. Auckland Transport's team of qualified instructors work along side parents to get kids riding. Whether starting on a balance bike or making the transition to pedals the team is there to help. If your child doesn't yet have a bike but is keen to give it a go, there will be bikes available on a limited basis.

AA Driver's Town Opening Day at Rainbow's End

New AA Driver's Town attraction offers an authentic and fun driving experience for children up to 12 years old. Kids are be able to get behind the wheel in miniature Suzuki Swift vehicles and drive through a colourful town complete with two way roads, traffic lights, roundabouts, pedestrian crossing and even traffic lights. The vehicles also have space for parents to help out and join in with their children as they try out driving for the first time.
AA Driver’s Town has a large 1,200sq m driving area and the whole attraction is completely covered, meaning that it’s a great place to visit rain or shine.

MOTAT has teamed up with the Mangere Mountain Education Centre to explore indigenous innovation in relation to flax, particularly flax weaving. Discover how New Zealand’s early settlers adapted to their environment and conditions and why flax became an important resource for food, medicine and weaving. Bring the whole family along to watch a master weaver at work and get hands-on while learning the basics of flax weaving.

Join Thomas & FriendsTM to experience a ride on a real steam engine and take part in Thomas-themed activities. Thomas the Tank Engine will be offering rides in his trucks. His friends Rusty, Terence and Bulgy will be there. Bulgy will be taking passengers on trips around the beautiful local countryside. And of course Sir Topham Hatt, the Fat Controller will be in charge for the day. Two trains will be operating 12km trips over the GVR line, departing at 30-minute intervals. The first train departs 9.30am with the last train departing 4pm.
Face painting, storytelling, bouncy castle and other fun activities will be available free with your GVR Train Ticket.
