Matariki wild thing kai time

Tamariki go on a full day expedition into the forest. Children will learn how to forage, harvest and cook edible native plants found in the ngahere (forest). This Matariki event gives children the experience of being in the forest, where they will begin to cultivate deep and meaningful connections to their natural environment and understand the concept of kaitiakitanga (caretaking). Activities include traditional flax weaving, plant identification and traditional cooking. Bring suitable walking gear.
Cost: $45 per person. Bookings are essential as spaces are limited.

The Matariki Dawn show includes Māori myths and stories about our earth, the moon and the Māori New Year. Visitors can also see the stars of Matariki up close in the 360-degree planetarium and find out why they appear at certain times of the year.
