Celebrate Chinese New Year and see more than 800 handmade Chinese lanterns illuminating the Auckland Domain. Taste authentic foods and watch live music, dance, martial arts and the spectacular fireworks finale. ‘With free entry, it’s great weekend of fun for all ages.’
If you’re all about the lanterns and less about the crowds, be sure to head to the Domain on 14 February for the lantern appreciation night (there will be no stalls, live entertainment or food on this night).
The Lantern Festival is on each evening as follows:
- Thursday 14 February 2019: 7:00pm to 10:30pm note this is a lanterns only evening
- Friday 15 Feburary 2019: 5:00pm to 10:30pm
- Saturday 16 February 2019: 4:00pm to 10:30pm
- Sunday 17 February 2019: 4:00pm to 10:30pm
The lanterns only light up in the evenings, outside of the official Festival times, however you can still enjoy seeing the lanterns in the day time when it is less crowed.
