Event Details
Join Auckland Museum for the first exhibition in their new community-led gallery, the Te Taunga Community Hub!
Auckland’s Cook Islands Mauke community presents Te Mekameka o taku Ipukarea: The Treasures of my Homeland.
Through personal stories, members of the community share how their taonga reflects their heritage and culture, past and present.
Visitors will be able to experience a community’s story not through the Museum’s interpretation, but through the eyes of the community itself. Everything you find in the gallery has been chosen by the community to tell their story, from the treasures themselves, to the labels, the signage, and the lighting.
On At 10 Jul and Sat 7 Aug the community will be leading their own activations in the gallery for the public.
OPEN UNTIL SUN 8 AUG
Price
FREE entry for Aucklanders.
