The first comprehensive exhibition of Schoonâs art in decades, Split Level View Finder rethinks his legacy for 21stâcentury Aotearoa.
He was born in Java to Dutch parents, but educated back in the Netherlands at the Rotterdam Academy of Fine Arts. He arrived in Aotearoa New Zealand in 1939, where he would become a catalyst for modernism.
The art exhibition includes works by Rita Angus, Len Castle, A.R.D. Fairburn, Rolfe Hattaway, Dennis Knight Turner, Douglas MacDiarmid, Paratene Matchitt, Selwyn Muru, Arnold Wilson, and Ans Westra.
The exhibition is on at Te Uru Waitakere Comporary Gallery until 14 June.
