EcoFest West BEST family events in 2021
Saturday 20 March – Sunday 18 April 2021
EcoFest West is Auckland’s biggest annual environment festival which starts on 20 March 2021 and runs for one month across West Auckland. There are lots of fun events for families and children that celebrate our stunning environment and how we can look after it. The festival is organised by EcoMatters Environment Trust with more than 140 events, which are hosted by a range of organisations.
This year’s events categories include Waka Hourua/Clean Transport, Kīnaki Kai Reka/Foodies’ Fix, Te Whaihanga/Makers’ Mayhem, Torohē Nuku/Explore Nature and Mauri Noho/Conscious Living. With more than 80 whānau-friendly events, there are plenty of experiences, adventures and workshops which are aimed especially for children and families.
The events cover a wide range of topics and subject matters, and most events are free or low-cost.
Our pick of the best events for kids and families at the EcoFest West 2021
EcoFest West offers the perfect opportunity to pick up new skills at workshops like Urban Beekeeping, or to explore scenic cycling routes with the Cycle Day | Eke Pihikara at Arataki Visitor Centre, a Guided Bird Ride or the Bike Henderson Ride to Upper Opanuku Stream.
Learn about bugs and fish that live in our local streams or head out on the water at Matuku Link’s VIP Kayak Day. Kids can also learn how to make their own upcycled journal, try flax weaving or make an upcycled bottle planter. Families can try something new together to help out our environment and go on a Silent Disco Clean Up at Swanson Reserve.
