Auckland Live's free, interactive digital art experience is set to make its permanent home at the Bruce Mason Theatre later in April. The screen will mark it debut with Jenna Gavin's and Matthew Martin's Birds of a Shadow, a playful installation where everyone can work together to match their body shape to birds shapes to reveal beautifully crafted images of birds. The work uses built-in sensors and camera to capture participants and to display their silhouettes on the screen. The amount revealed of the bird image is dependent on the filled in areas of its silhouette by the participants. This creates an individual bird per game, which joins a grid of other made birds by the audience. We are looking forward the art installation at the Bruce Mason Theatre as it will happily keep children (and their parents) amused while waiting to go into see a show or to experience after the school. We can't wait to see what local artists work get displayed on the screen in the future too.
