DOC Toyota Kiwi Guardians launch event

Join in a fun-filled day for families to celebrate the launch of DOC's 100th Toyota Kiwi Guardians site. Kiwi Guardians is an activity programme for kids to learn about nature, earn cool rewards and go on epic family adventures. There will be heaps of activities on offer, prizes up for grabs, awesome displays and a chance to meet DOC's Conservation Dogs!
Enjoy a free guided adventure walk, then apply for your medal at home. The first guided adventure walk starts at 10.45am so pack your gumboots and get ready for fun!

Ice Skate Tour

Be prepared for a cool but not cold ice skating experience. The Ice Skate Tour travels around New Zealand with state of the art, artificial ice rinks. They look like ice and have 97% same gliding capacity as natural ice. Surrounded by an inflatable boarding and helmets + gloves provided at no charge (both compulsory for kids) it’s the safest possible way to try ice skating. Sit back and relax in the high-back, reclined seats in the Stardome’s 360-degree immersive theatre. After the show, you will get to look through courtyard telescopes if the weather is fine, or experience a special tour of the night sky through the Large Zeiss Telescope up in the dome.

Your winter wonderland in Aotea Square Ice Rink is back with a series of fun events. Skate or slide against the backdrop of downtown Auckland and experience the magic. Pou Rama will illuminate the lower grass terrace of Aotea Square. Pou Rama (Light Posts), features a series of free-standing light structures. Designed by Storybox, in collaboration with visual artist Desna Whaanga-Schollum (Rongomaiwahine, Ngāti Kahungunu, Ngāti Pahauwera). These are inspired by pouwhenua (land symbols of support) and represent creative wairua (inspiration), which is generated from te taiao (the environment). The whakairo designs express cycles of creativity and connections to place.
