Changing Gear explores the history of cycling in New Zealand, the growing place of cycling in our cities and towns, and showcases some of the innovations in the world of bikes, from the high tech to the quirky! For 200 years, we have adapted the bicycle to suit our needs and in turn it has helped shape the world around us. With plentiful interactives and digital experiences, this exhibition investigates fascinating elements of our history, and examines how cycling is changing and growing in New Zealand.

Yayoi Kusama: The Obilteration Room Opening Day

The Obilteration room is a family-friendly and participatory installation by one of the world’s most popular, well-loved artists, Yayoi Kusama. Beginning as a stark white interior, the work encourages you to transform the Creative Learning Centre space by saturating it with a rainbow of brightly coloured dots. Watch as, over time, a dizzying blur of colour is built up by visitors applying brightly coloured stickers in various sizes to every surface. The obliteration room at Auckland Art Gallery encourages everyone, especially children, to experience and engage with the artwork with little or no prompting.
