Kids Learn 2 Ride: Avondale

Learning to ride a two-wheeler is one of those big childhood milestones, and being a part of that experience as a parent is a thrill. However, if you are wondering how to get started, or experiencing a few bumps along the way then check out the #Learn2Ride sessions.Auckland Transport’s team of qualified instructors work along side parents to get kids riding. Whether starting on a balance bike or making the transition to pedals the team is there to help. If your child doesn’t yet have a bike but is keen to give it a go, there will be bikes available on a limited basis.

Pump Tracks are for Girls too!

Women in Urbanism Aotearoa

Aimed at girls around the 7-11 age range, and there’ll be activities for younger kids too. t’s a chance for girls to have a go in an awesome bike space and hang out with Olympic BMX mediallist  Sarah Walker. They’ll hear about her pathway into BMX, be taught some tricks and go for a few rides around the pump track with her.Auckland Transport instructors will be there to teach the basics of bikes, and give tips on cycling in Auckland. They will also have a woman bike mechanic on hand to give your bikes a check-up. Some bikes will be available for girls to have a go on, so don’t worry if you don’t have one! Younger kids and toddlers can try out balance bikes – a great way to learn how to ride. If you are planning on going please register, so they know how many people to expect on the day.

The Haier Big Hoot Auckland 2018 Public Art Trail

Super-sized owl sculptures will descend on Auckland for the Haier Big Hoot art trail. Over 100 owls will roost in parks, public spaces, malls and libraries, turning Auckland into a virtual aviary. There are 47 giant owls (1.65m) that have been individually designed by Kiwi and International artists.  Joining the giant owls are 60 owlets (90cm) – many designed by Auckland school students. The giant owls at the end for the trail will be auctioned off to fundraise for Child Cancer Foundation.Find them all using the trail map within the Big Hoot 2018 app – available to download from the App Store or Google Play from 01 March, and collect rewards as you go.

The Tower Champs

Tower Champs have arrived at Sky Tower for the April school holidays.   Sky Tower have teamed up with Athletics New Zealand to bring you a day full of fun activities including a relay race on the secret floor up the Sky Tower. Receive your very own racing bib, compete in the challenges and earn all three of the collector’s wristbands to become a sporting legend. There are over $1,000 in total prizes to be won. Ready Steady Go! Holiday experience at MOTAT

Race through the school holidays with MOTAT’s “Ready, Steady, Go!” holiday experience. Jump into the fast lane to explore all the ways to travel. This experience gets back to the basics by looking at the most fundamental element of transportation – getting from A to B! Test your design skills by building and customising the cardboard body of a radio-controlled car and then race your creation in the action-packed Turbodrome on a purpose-built track. See marbles cascading down a giant, custom-made marble run and then have a go at building your own with magnetic boards. Make time for a pitstop and create your own weird and wonderful vehicle on the magnetic wall or participate in the transport-themed fun and games on offer.

See MOTAT’s operational collection come to life every third Sunday of the month with a great range of family activities included as part of your normal MOTAT admission. Favourite Live Day activities include rides on heritage trams, Little Flick the mini fire engine, a steam train and military vehicles.
