1. Onewa Domain

This is one of our favourite Auckland playgrounds. Fun bike track for the kids, flying foxes, swings, board walks and more.

3. Le Roys Bush and LIttle Shoal Bay Reserves

Access off 210-212 Onewa Road, Hinemoa and Enterprise Streets, Birkenhead

Beautiful reserves  for walking with your family on the tracks that connect local roads to the raupo wetlands, streams running from Birkenhead Village to  Little Shoal Bay beach.  See tall kauri, manuka and totara trees, tuis, kereru and tiwakawaka. Access off Tui Glen Road, Kauri Glen Road, Woodside Avenue, Lake Road, Holdaway Avenue, James Evans Drive, and Raymond Terrace, Birkenhead

5. Kauri Glen Reserve

Entry points at: Kauri Glen Road, Gladstone Road, Paruru Avenue, Mahuta Grove, Woodside Avenue, Raymond Terrace and Tui Glen Road. Northcote

One and half hour loop tract that goes through beautiful bush with Kauri, Totara, Taraire, Tawa, Rewarewa, Maire and other native trees and plants.  There is a board walk in parts. If you are luck you might spot the eels, fish and crayfish that live in the stream.


6. Kauri Point Centennial Park, Chatswood

Access off Onetaunga Road,  Chatswood

Beautiful kauri park that goes down to Kendall Bay. Enjoy the views back to Auckland City across the harbour. Kendall Bay is a lovely spot for your family to swim.

7. Kauri Park

Entry points at Rangitira Road and Hebe Place, Birkenhead

Forest with Kauri trees up to 400 years old, with a large stream the goes into Soldier Bay.  As the walk is quite steep this is more suitable for older children.

18. Chelsea Heritage Park and Chelsea Sugar Factory 

100 Colonial Road, Birkenhead, Auckland

Go on the Original Sugar Workers Walk around the historic spots of the Chelsea Refinery.
From April 2018 you will be able to take a  factory tour  of New Zealand’s only sugar factory which was constructed from hand-made bricks back in 1884. Or you will be able to attend a baking class, visit the interactive exhibits and a cafe.
