The Community Classics series is APO’s way of giving back the gift of music to the wonderful city we all live in.  The theme for 2020 is our most precious resource – water. As Aucklanders, water is all around us and it is a reflection of who we are. From West Auckland’s rough black sand beaches to the calm waves of the North Shore.

Auckland’s orchestra presents a programme of music that includes favourites like ‘How Far I’ll Go’ from Disney’s Moana as well as orchestral classics that told stories about water, like J. Strauss’ Blue Danube Waltz.

2020 marks the 20th anniversary of the creation of the Hauraki Marine Gulf Park Act, which preserves the Gulf as a marine reserve, protecting its resources and ensuring that we can continue to enjoy it for generations to come. APO celebrates this moment with Communities Composer Ryan Youens, who has composed a new work for the series, inspired by the Gulf’s waters and the many islands within it.

Let it wash over you and your whānau!
