A FAMILY BATTLES EXTREME WEATHER AND INTREPID FILMMAKERS BRAVE THE ARCTIC WILDS IN THIS INGENIOUS, VISUALLY-INSPIRED PORTRAIT OF HUMANITY AT THE MERCY OF MOTHER NATURE.
For one average family, a lazy Sunday at home turns into an absurd struggle for normality as apocalyptic weather rages outdoors. Meanwhile, somewhere near the North Pole, three wildlife reporters, foolishly unequipped but determined to document Earth’s environmental woes, follow a pack of polar bears on the brink of extinction.
From physical theatre trailblazers Chaliwaté Compagnie and Focus Company – a Belgian collaboration between brilliant puppeteers and technical geniuses of the stage – Dimanche is a pure gem of visual and storytelling imagination. Compellingly centred on the planet’s climate change crisis, this microscopically detailed show stirs emotion and wonder in equal measure, as performers manipulate intricate miniatures and lifelike puppets through richly cinematic sets to evoke a world in peril.
As creative and comedic as any Wes Anderson movie, Dimanche’s ability to simultaneously delight and deliver an urgent message is second to none. A gorgeous piece of theatre.
