The Anniversary Weekend flooding certainly made everyone more aware of them, and with the accelerating effects of climate change they are likely to make their presence felt again and again.
This hīkoi will explore two of these hidden awa – Opouteka Cox’s Creek and Edgar’s Creek. The walk will take a couple of hours, with frequent stops to catch glimpses of these streams and learn a little about what has been done and what might be done to aid flood mitigation and improve native biodiversity.

Auckland Climate Festival is a month-long festival held in Taamaki Makaurau every year creating space for us all to come together as a city to celebrate, catalyse and accelerate climate action.
Auckland Climate Festival is an annual festival held in Tāmaki Makaurau, creating space for us all to come together as a city to celebrate, catalyse and accelerate climate action. Through the Festival, Aucklanders can engage in climate action by attending a diverse range of events, initiatives and activations taking place all across the region. The festival’s programme is co-curated with communities, mana whenua, rangatahi, the private sector, advocacy groups and government as a whole-of-society response to the climate emergency.
