Fresh off bringing a parade of marine creatures to the Whau, artists Christina Houghton, Melissa Laing and Juliette Laird have designed a series of easy to make moana-inspired costumes and accessories that will help you glam up and bring the creatures of our moana to the Mermaid Parade 2026 at Silo 6 in Silo Park.

Come for the full four hours and make yourself a penguin or shark suit. Pop in for an hour or two and craft a pair of enticing fins or flappy flippers, construct a wiggling fish tail, rig a floating jellyfish, make a marine mask, create a fish sceptre (AKA a fish stick). Or, you can bring your own costume idea and workshop it with our experienced makers.

With making activities suitable for adults to little ones, this workshop will help you to rock a look for the Mermaid Parade while highlighting the significance of our treasured marine ecosystems.
