Event Details

Rotoroa Island is one of the few predator-free islands in the Hauraki Gulf, which acts as a creche for Coromandel brown kiwi. Enjoy a very special experience this Labour Weekend to welcome the newest kiwi chick to the island.

DAY PLAN

10am  – Explore Ferry departs downtown Auckland​
11:20am – Ferry arrives at Rotoroa Island
11:45am – Short welcome and introduction to kiwi chick (Home Bay)
1:30pm – Guided Nature Walk (Bookings required)
Explore Rotoroa Island – stunning beaches, fascinating museum and over 8km of walking tracks through regenerating native forest.
4:25pm – Ferry departs Rotoroa Island, arriving in Auckland at 5:35pm.

GETTING TO ROTOROA ISLAND

Explore Ferry departs Auckland from the Explore Booking Kiosk in Viaduct Harbour to Rotoroa Island

The trip takes about 75 minutes to Rotoroa Island.

Rotoroa’s kiwi programme is in partnership with Save the Kiwi, as part of the national kiwi recovery programme to help give young kiwi chicks the best chance possible.

There are limited seats on the ferry, so get in quick!

Meet the kiwi experience is FREE, but usual ferry ticket pricing applies. $75 adult | $40 child | $200 family (2 adults & 2 children).
