Event Details

Sandringham Heritage Live at the Hub on Fri 15 October is part of the Auckland Heritage Festival 2021 and a chance for children and families to explore local history.

Come along and learn to recognise how old houses are – bring a photo of your own house. Take part in a mini heritage walk or treasure hunt in Gribblehirst Park and surrounding streets. Learn from local tangata whenua how the local mountains got their names, local legends, and what Sandringham and surrounds was like for Māori before colonisation. Learn how the local park and mountain got their name and play games from yesteryear. Take a walk through an ancient lava rock forest which shows Sandringham in its original state.

Listen to a panel of locals who lived in the area in the 40s, 50s, 60s and 70s. Find out from our panel: what it was like at school back then and how they travelled to school… and what they ate for lunch!

This event is aimed at children 8-12 years, but all are welcome! Children must be accompanied by an adult.
