Bright Nights returns for 2019
Attracting more than 63,000 visitors in 2018 Bright Nights, the immersive lighting experience will be returning to the Viaduct Harbour for five evenings from Wednesday 8 May to Sunday 12 May 2019. If you would like to visit when it is less busy then we suggested attending on either Wednesday 8 May or Thursday 9 May as these are expected to be quieter.
Bright Nights is curated by resident art director Angus Muir, the immersive public event will see the Viaduct Harbour transformed into a visual wonderland, with an estimated 100,000 visitors expected to weave their way through the extended line-up of luminary installations. The trail has almost doubled in length since its 2018 debut, with visitors being treated to more than a dozen interactive displays from both local and international artists.
Angus Muir says: “Bright Nights is a unique opportunity to interact with pieces by world class lighting artists here in New Zealand.” The theme this year is sea life and sustainability. Highlights include:
– an underwater masterpiece titled Monstrum Marina by special effects studio Creature Post, animating Viaduct Harbour’s marina
– the return of the immensely popular Silent Disco presented by Spark & Spotify on Te Wero Island, featuring award-winning Kiwi musician Ladi6
– Vector Lights sustainable harbour bridge light show each evening during the event.
Bright Nights will draw to a close on Sunday 12 May, with a Mother’s Day fireworks display expected to draw even larger crowds.
There will be two trails at Bright Nights this year. One trail starts at Waitemata Plaza at Customs Street East, and the other outside the Viaduct Events Centre on Halsey Street, both of which land in the heart of Viaduct’s hospitality hub, forming the intersection of the two immersive trails.
Bright Nights at Viaduct Harbour is live from 6pm to 10pm each night from 8 to 12 May 2019, and is a FREE event for all ages. Find out more here: www.brightnights.co.nz
