Sunnyvale Neighbourhood Stream Gathering EcoWest Festival

Saturday 7 April 2018: 1:00pm to 3:00pm
Join Ecomatters on a tour of two backyard streams in Sunnyvale. These streams are currently being restored with help from the neighbours. The tour starts at the Waari Stream (down behind The Grange Preschool) and do a stream test to check the water quality. Then walk over to the stream behind Sunnyvale Hall to do another test to see how the streams compares. Finish with kai to share.

Murrays Bay Wharf Birdman 2018
Saturday 7 April 2018: 10:30am to 3:00pm
The Birdman event is a competition for human powered flying machines and involves human ‘birdmen’ attempting to “fly” the furthest distance off the end of a wharf/pier into the sea, aiming to win the Birdman trophy. Many flyers will take part to help raise money for charities; others design complex machines to aim for the category prizes. Entrants are encouraged to perform a routine and have music.
There is entertainment from 10.30am. At 12.00pm there is the Children’s & Birdman Parade followed by the Birdman Jump; Followed at 1.30pm by the Birdman Prizegiving. There will be more food, fun and entertainment until the event closes at 3.00pm.
STEM in the Park 5 to 6 years
Girls aged 5 to 6 years old are invited to join the adventure team for a challenging and exciting day of STEM activities and experiments. They will learn how to: design and build high towers; make slime and bouncy balls; use spy skills to break a secret code; build a boat that is strong enough to float with lots of treasure aboard and more. Free family drop in event. Squiggla is a creative based learning application, developed by the Chartwell Trust to promote creativity through the exploration of mark making. Play, listen and respond to rhythms using line, dots and squiggles to create a one of a kind Squigglework and learn how to upload your images into your own Squiggla gallery using the Squiggla App. The App is free to download and encourages non-judgemental play. If you have one, bring along your own device so the Squiggla team can help get you started.

The Haier Big Hoot Auckland 2018 Public Art Trail

Super-sized owl sculptures will descend on Auckland for the Haier Big Hoot art trail. Over 100 owls will roost in parks, public spaces, malls and libraries, turning Auckland into a virtual aviary. There are 47 giant owls (1.65m) that have been individually designed by Kiwi and International artists. Joining the giant owls are 60 owlets (90cm) – many designed by Auckland school students. The giant owls at the end for the trail will be auctioned off to fundraise for Child Cancer Foundation.
