Get hands-on in the bush this EcoFest, with Restore Hibiscus and Bays. At the end of the Whangaparāoa Peninsula, just before Shakespear Regional Park is this beautiful coastal esplanade reserve. RHB has teamed up with some local residents to take out the invasive weeds and restore the natural habitat. More natural habitat means there is more chance that the rare native species of birds, lizards and insects that reside within the sanctuary of Shakespear may be able to spread their wings and move along the peninsula into this reserve. Already, one of the volunteers has heard a tīeke/saddleback in this area which is pretty exciting. See you there!
WHERE: Meet at the reserve entrance next to 156 Pacific Parade.
WHEN: This regular working bee is on the first Saturday of the month, every month 10 – 12pm.
This is a great opportunity to meet other locals interested in restoring and protecting our local environment, and to learn more about native plant and animal species and how we care for and protect them.

Event Details
Play Festival celebrates cultural identity, facilitates intercultural connections, and creates a safe and inclusive environment for people to play, interact and JUST HAVE FUN.
The purpose of the Play Festival is to bring people together to celebrate cultural identity, diversity, inclusion, friendship, integration, creativity, wellbeing, and fun in life through play.
The original vision for the Play Festival is for it to be a recurring event for the community to enjoy, participate and get involved with.
New Zealand portraits an incredible social diversity, with the coexistence of numerous community groups often characterised by ancient, fascinating culture and traditions.
In this context Auckland stands as an ideal location to host an event that could potentially grow its reputation as a reference for traditional play in the Asia Pacific region.
The Play Festival can therefore be an occasion for communities to get together, celebrate their culture, have fun, and learn about each other in a meaningful, experiential, and inclusive way.
Traditional games are part of everyone’s cultural identity, they are inter-generational and are a natural way that can bring us together without boundaries nor discrimination.
Come along to a FREE FAMILY DAY to play and explore traditional games, music and food from many different cultures! THIS IS FOR ALL AGES!

This year The Great Easter Egg Hunt will start from Headquarters Park and then you will head throughout Hobsonville Point (much wider than last year), searching for laminated eggs worth varying points.
Photograph your team with them on a phone or digital camera and then return to the start point to get a team score. Loads of easter eggs to be won (and not just for the best team).
Key points of note:
1) Parents – please make sure that your children have adequate supervision for exploring the area. You’ll need good walking shoes, drink bottle, sunscreen and suitable clothing. The activity could take an hour or more depending on how fast you go and how much you explore.
2) Due to the numbers involved, they can’t provide easter eggs this year for everyone sorry – just prize winners only.
3) All rules, maps and clues + registration will be done DIGITALLY this year at the event to avoid queues so make sure you have a phone with mobile data available.
4) They won’t have lawn games or inflatable castles this year due to the large numbers involved. They will though have a few food trucks selling cookies, gelato and ice cream.

Young people in Tāmaki Makaurau are vulnerable to Climate Change and are the ones who too often go unheard. This event run by Generation Zero is for the voices of our youth to echo through Tāmaki Makaurau, inspiring a collective commitment to environmental responsibility.
The Youth Climate Summit seeks to empower the future guardians of Aotearoa with knowledge, inspiration, and actionable strategies for shaping a sustainable future. Generation Zero hosts “a whānau-friendly day” through interactive workshops, keynote speakers, and activities for all, culminating in a policy development simulation responding to a mock climate crisis.
Our young tamariki will also get to learn and play! The summit will allow children to express their unique perspectives, encouraging creativity and fostering a sense of environmental connection.
Join in an interactive day to learn, debate, play, and be inspired.

Event Details
Have you heard the exciting news about gardening with biochar? Biochar acts as a “permanent” form of compost in your garden–it holds onto water, nutrients and helps turn clay soil into friable soil–but only if it is properly prepared. Unlike compost, biochar does not break down and disappear after a few seasons.
This FREE workshop explains what biochar is, how to prepare it, how to use it safely, and where to get it in order to turn clay into topsoil or just improve the garden soil you have.
Presenter Betsy Kettle is an experienced gardener, composter, and member of the Biochar Network New Zealand. She has been using biochar to transform her own clay-based garden for over 10 years, teaching schools how to use it, and applying it to a commercial banana plantation.

Niamh Maher will go over different weaving traditions from different cultures, including Maori (Raranga) and Irish (Basket weaving) at this FREE workshop for kids at the Pah Homestead. Children will understand how weaving has played a part in human connectedness and joy for centuries.
Suitable for kids aged 6-12. No reservation required, but spaces will be limited and available on a first-come basis.
ABOUT THE ARTIST
Niamh Maher (born 2001) is a New Zealand/ Irish multimedia artist working primarily in sculpture, painted image, and textiles. Employing a feminist lens, she frequents domestic terrain in the materiality of her work, encasing philosophical consideration and concern into objects which may at first appear unassuming.
With a background in Psychology, she addresses concern for the self with the suggestion of an internal partnership which furthers the intimacy of all entities, conceivable or not. Her work imagines the conscious experience as tactile and invites all to hold it in their hand.

Step into a world of enchantment as Comet Collab proudly presents the second edition of Enchanted Garden. On Saturday, May 4th, Naomi and Bill Kirk Park in Māngere Bridge Village will be the canvas for a breathtaking display of 500 fluorescent flowers, set to illuminate the night sky for one unforgettable evening.
