Event Details

Helen Lukman-Fox invites you to an organ concert – with a twist. Come hear a variety of musical genres not often associated with the “King of instruments”. Helen, a professional organist and music educator will entertain young and old.

From the full orchestral-like sound of the theme tune of the Avengers movie, to the playful computer game sounds of Super Mario Bros.

Hear (and see) amazing footwork or listen for the interweaving musical themes from the maestro of German organ music, Bach. French composers (Franck, Vierne) bring both traditional cathedral styles and intense and ecstatic passion (Alain). And far from traditional organ music, some jazzy Dave Brubeck.

If the opportunity arises, Helen may also throw in some surprises like Star Wars or Gustav Holt’s Jupiter.

The occasion is a celebration of “Steve” the pipe organ’s 111th
birthday – cake and refreshments included. A rare opportunity to see
the insides of an historic pipe organ and how it works as the covers are
removed. Those that are interested will be able to have a go themselves, hands AND feet.

Kids and adults alike will find something to do with a range of fun activities afterwards courtesy of Auckland Organ Association as well as being an opportunity to enjoy great music.
