Event Details
In this FREE Arts House Trust Artist Workshop, kids aged 4 to 10 years old can join artist Daisy Nicholas to create unconventional cyanotype with artist Daisy Nicholas at The Pah Homestead on Sat 19 Aug from 2pm to 4pm.
She will take you through the steps and ideas of using sand, water, and sunlight to create artwork. This workshop explores how we can create amazing and fun art using science. You will be able to get your hand in the sand and watch how the fabric we use turns from a green colour to a rich blue in the sunlight.
Daisy Nicholas is an Auckland-based emerging artist. She is an experimental photographer and explores environmental physics through bodies of water and coastlines. Pushing the limits and ideas around how we create photographs and how we define the medium.
No reservation required, but spaces will be limited and available on a first-come basis.
WHAT IS A CYANOTYPE?
Cyanotypes were amongst the first ever kinds of photographs that did not require a camera. The paper is soaked with a salt solution and when exposed to UV light (i.e. the sun) and then rinsed off, it produces a blue print. The distinctive feature of the print is its shade of cyan blue, which results from its exposure to ultraviolet light.
