Artland: An Installation by Do Ho Suh and children is a collaborative hands-on installation designed by Do Ho Suh with his young daughters at Auckland Art Gallery.

Artland is an evolving sculptural environment created from children’s modelling clay. The installation features imaginative creatures and fantastical landscapes including Noodlegrass, Blobbugs, Spocky Trees and Slimes, and invites visitors of all ages to sculpt their own creations.

Book your FREE ticket for a 30 minute Artland session online or onsite at the Gallery’s information desk on our Ground level. You are encouraged to book in advance to avoid disappointment, especially at busy times like in the school holidays and on weekends.

The project is supported by the Joyce Fisher Charitable Trust.

Who needs to book?
Anyone who would like to get their own clay with which to sculpt and add to the Artland installation should book a ticket. Accompanying caregivers who don’t want their own clay don’t need to book.

Can I just look?
Yes, you are welcome to visit Artland and explore with your eyes only.

Who is this activity suitable for?
Artland is open to everyone! Children must be accompanied by a caregiver at all times, and those under the age of 5 must be carefully supervised.

Am I allowed to touch the artworks?
You will need to touch the installation to add your creation to the ever-growing Artland ecosystem. However, we ask that you limit your touching to this. The clay can break, leaving others’ artwork damaged.

Artland is on daily in The Creative Learning Centre | Te Aka Matua on the Mezzanine of Auckland Art Gallery from Sat 20 Sep 2025 — Sun 19 Jul 2026. Artland sessions are 30 minutes and are on the hour and the half hour from 10.30am–4pm daily

The project is supported by the Joyce Fisher Charitable Trust.
