Celebrate Chinese New Year and the Year of the Ox at the free 2021 Auckland Lantern Festival on Captain Cook and Marsden Wharves in Auckland City. This years event is FREE but tickets are required for entry to support crowd and capacity management and contract tracing.
The Auckland Lantern Festival is Auckland’s biggest cultural festival and New Zealand’s premiere annual four-day festival celebrating Chinese New Year, Chinese culture and Auckland’s Chinese communities.
Enjoy hundreds of elaborate handmade Chinese lanterns on display, cultural song, music, and dance performances, craft demonstrations, sponsor activations and competitions, retail and food stalls, and a fireworks display.
Note: The Lantern Festival is taking place on Auckland’s waterfront, on Captain Cook and Marsden Wharves this year and not in Auckland Domain for 2021.
You will need to book a session time to enter the festival and are respectfully asked to limit your time at the Festival to three hours so that other members of the community can enjoy the festival too.
