The Orange Bike Ride aims to promote cycling as a sustainable means of transport which helps us to address climate change through a standout and enjoyable family oriented event connecting New Zealanders with the local Dutch communities in as many regions as possible across Aotearoa New Zealand.
The Orange Bike Ride starts and finishes from the side of the Estuary Arts Center/Café at 214 Hibiscus Coast Highway in Orewa, only a short drive from Auckland City. Combine your bike ride with a visit to the Arts Centre!
Prizes will go to participants with the most elaborate outfit or sustainably decorated bike! Dutch ‘koffie’ and treats will await all participants at the finish. Double Dutch Fries will be there to serve you a well-deserved “patat speciaal”.
Your bicycles must be roadworthy, cyclists must wear helmets. Please also bring plenty of sunblock, water and a raincoat. This is a self-guided ride, so children must be accompanied by an adult. We ask for your commitment to Hibiscus Coast Council’s Zero-Waste policy at this event.
The event is part of the annual Dutch Week festival which will be held from 27 April to 7 May 2023. Dutch Week aims to enhance the visibility of local Dutch communities and businesses and the contribution they make to a diverse New Zealand, for all of Aotearoa New Zealand to participate in sharing Dutch culture, and to highlight the strong connection beyween the Netherlands and Aotearoa New Zealand.
