Enjoy a special screening of the 2004 documentary Genesis, a visually stunning film that explores one of humanity’s oldest questions: Where do we come from? Six years in the making, this remarkable work is the second feature from the directors of Microcosmos and is narrated by Sotigui Kouyaté.
Blending humour with seriousness, and innocence with wisdom, an African griot uses the rich language of myth and fable to tell the story of the birth of the universe, the fiery beginnings of our planet, and the evolution of life on Earth. Yet this is no fantasy, it is the true story of all of us. Through reflections on time, matter, birth, love, and death, Genesis invites us to see the natural world with fresh wonder. Animals take centre stage in this flamboyant, modern yet timeless film, which features breathtaking imagery throughout.
Please book tickets in advance via the website, and walk-ins are also welcome subject to availability.
This event is part of Waiheke Community Cinema’s EcoFest series, which explores our connection to the environment through one-off Tuesday night screenings that invite us to reflect, learn, and be moved to action — whether by rethinking our impact or deepening our appreciation for the planet.
