Event Details

Join in the Coronation event on the green in front of the cenotaph at Auckland Museum, Pukekawa Auckland Domain from 1pm on Sunday May 7 to celebrate the coronation of King Charles III and He Rā Rākau Tītapu – King Charles III Coronation Plantings.

Families can enjoy a free sausage sizzle, ice creams, facepainting, live performances from Auckland Brass and even the chance to take home their very own sapling, to plant in their garden*. This is the time to come together as a community to share kai, have fun and watch some of the video highlights of coronation events on the big screen, as we plant the first native tree and celebrate the beginning of the tree planting initiative.

The New Zealand government’s donation of $1 million will fund the planting of native trees across Aotearoa. The initiative will be led by Trees That Count in partnership with the Department of Conservation and volunteers across Aotearoa over the coming months.

King Charles III has had a lifelong interest in conservation and sustainability – this tree planting initiative honours that commitment and marks the coronation of the King of New Zealand.

*500 native saplings will be available to take home from 1pm, with a limit of one per family.
