Event Details
The creation story and the dance of the Atua and the five elements. The family show will include 7 of Dance Out Loud’s dancers combined with storytelling, traditional Māori instruments and a beautiful set. The New Zealand Dance Company is coming over to dive into the movement opportunities of the student’s Atua (Māori god/being). The workshop exploration will form the basis of the show’s visual spectacle.
A key set piece in the show is the waharoa (entranceway) which is being created in our school holiday programme. In addition, the stage will feature a large Takarangi (spiral) made from harakeke (flax). The two intersecting solid spirals represent Ranginui and Papatūānuku (Sky father and earth Mother) and the close bond they share. The center of the Takarangi represents the origin of all, the beginning, singularity. The open space between the two spirals symbolises Te Ao Mārama (The World of light and Knowledge) and the link man has with the Wairua (Spiritual dimension).
