Matariki Night Sky

Event Details

Matariki is a special time of year. Matariki is a star cluster that appears in our skies in the winter month of Pipiri (June-July) and marks the first month of the Māori lunar calendar. It is a time of new beginnings, reflection, gathering together and celebration.

Cornwall Park’s FREE Matariki Exhibition is a welcoming space for whānau, friends and communities to come together to learn about Matariki, reflect on the year past, dream about the year to come and have fun! You will learn about Matariki, Maramataka – the Māori lunar calendar, the stars and much more.

The exhibition is indoors and on from 11 June to 28 August from 10am to 4pm. All visitors over the age of 12 years old will be required to wear a face mask while in the building.

Location: Huia Lodge Discovery Hub (next to the Cornwall Park Bistro)

This event will take place if it fits within the current Protection Framework restrictions and Government guidelines at the time. Possibility of postponement or cancellation if Framework restrictions and New Zealand Government guidelines change, or if the event is affected by staffing shortages.
