Event Details

Children are invited to join us in celebration of Matariki for this fun FREE guided workshop creating paint pigments from plants at the Pah Homestead.

Matariki is the Māori name given to the cluster of stars also known as the Pleiades. It rises in midwinter and, for many Māori, marks the beginning of a new year. It is the season for people to reflect and reconnect; both with one another and the natural world.

Whetū iti workshops and Pah Homestead invite you to celebrate Tupuānuku – the star associated with Kai grown in the ground. Share time creating pigments using plants in a guided creative workshop: Ngã tae ō te Mārā Colours of the Garden.

Explore how art making processes using plants and food waste can foster new appreciation for using creative, hands on process to bring people together. Children aged 4-10 are invited to join us for this free hands-on activity.

No reservation required, but spaces will be limited and available on a first-come basis.

ABOUT WHETŪ ITI
Kaupapa, the intention.

Like the light of the stars in our sky, the energy we put out into the world leaves a mark, far beyond our time. There is a way to be creative and less dependent on environmentally damaging systems of material supply. Whetū Iti Workshops are beautiful, fun and make space for the creative world inside all of us.
