Returning due to the popularity of last year’s event, the cultural hub of Avondale will once again host the neon-lit Matariki Night Ride.
Grab your pahikara (bike) and cycle down to for an evening of great kai (food), a waiata (song) from Avondale Primary School, korero (conversation), siva afi (a spectacular Samoan fire dance) performances and, of course, a thousand ways to look cool on two wheels.
Last year cyclists of all ages glided through a bespoke nocturnal course with fairy lights, including beautiful art installations by Avondale Primary pupils. Many people went beyond safety lights, with some bikes glowing gloriously into the night. You can expect more of this for Matariki 2022!
Local heroes and event hosts Bike Avondale work hard all-year-round to help make Avondale more bike-friendly, and are an important cog in addressing Aotearoa’s climate change challenges. They are always seeking to collaborate on environmentally friendly initiatives, and so we’re thrilled to be supporting this eco-focused celebration of the Māori new year.
