Event Details

This is a chance to make special note of the wildlife and plants you see around the island and contribute to NZ Bird Atlas 5-year mapping project.

Come by ferry for a day trip and join in the count of our birdlife (like tīeke, takahē and weka):

1. Pick up an ecosystem guide bird count map from our ranger

2. Start Counting – we have some tips for you, with help from the Bird Atlas crew

3. Bring to the island kiosk from 2pm and you’ll receive a badge recognising your efforts.

Ferry timing: Fullers360 ferry departs downtown Auckland at 8:45am, then return ferry departs Rotoroa Island at 3:45pm.

What else can you do on the island?

Guided Nature Walk – For a great intro to our island sanctuary, join our 90-min guided walk – top tips and stories with an island ranger.

Explore the walking tracks –  Did you know you can walk the whole island in one day?

Chris Booth Sculpture – Get up close to Chris Booth’s stunning sculpture, Kaitiaki, as part of our southern loop track.
