Event Details

Matiatia Coastal Walkway will once again be transformed into an artscape like no other for Sculpture on the Gulf 2022.

Sculpture on the Gulf might only be 35 minutes by ferry from Auckland, but it aims to take you much further – into the hearts and minds of our most outstanding artists.

Gather your family and get ready to walk, play, connect, reflect. Enjoy! PLUS….this 2022 event has an expanded event footprint, which will include artworks in the Oneroa Artworks precinct, a small works sculpture exhibition and more…..

What to expect:

Various walkways and stairs connect the 2km coastal walk. The walk takes 1.5 to 2.5 hours to enjoy; meander along, take in the magnificent views and, of course, the stars of the show: the sculptures!

The track is a coastal walkway and is unsealed and relatively narrow, with steps in some places. It is easy to overestimate fitness levels, mainly if you are not used to walking hills. Waiheke is hilly and very steep in some areas. There is minimal wheelchair and pram access along the entire length of the sculpture walk. Seating and shade along the walkway are also minimal.

Best times to visit

The walkway is significantly busier and more crowded on Saturdays and Sundays than it is during the week. If you want to miss the crowds we recommend visiting mid-week.

Event Times

Monday – Thursday 10am – 4pm, Friday – Saturday 9am – 6pm and Sunday 9am – 4pm

As per Government mandates, all event attendees will be asked to show a current NZ My Vaccine Pass in their name before being allowed to enter the Sculpture on the Gulf 2022 site. Children aged under 12 years do not need to provide a My Vaccine Pass to enter.
