Event Details

Given the close proximity to the Guide and other visitors in the group, Auckland Museum will not operate this daily tour until we enter Covid-19 alert level 1. If you have already booked for an upcoming date during Covid-19 alert level 2 or higher, their Bookings team will be in touch to rebook you onto a later date or to issue a refund.

Don’t miss this once in a lifetime chance to explore the underground world of Auckland Museum where many of the treasures are stored.

Your guide will reveal how the Museum looks after the priceless collections and how they are kept safe for future generations. This is a rare opportunity to see some of the incredible objects that aren’t on display in our galleries and exhibitions.

August and September weekends are now sold out. Bookings are open for November and December weekends and the September and October school holiday weekdays.

This tour is suitable for people aged 11 and over.
Anyone aged 11 – 13 must be accompanied by a paying adult.

Because you are entering high security areas not usually accessed by the public, no more than 10 people are allowed on each tour. Each tour will be led by a highly trained Museum Guide. It is not permitted to take photos and videos in the basement of the Museum.

The tour is 45 minutes but allow an hour. The guides are always willing to stay afterwards to answer any questions you may have.
