Do you know the used coffee capsules can be turned into something special?
We have all seen colorful Nespresso coffee capsules in our lives, they are so exquisite and beautiful, but did you know that they can be a great harm to the environment if disposed of incorrectly?
The used coffee grind inside the capsules is compostable, while the capsule shells are recyclable, but when put together, they go nowhere. The Nespresso company recalls all used capsules to recycle them. However countless capsules are still being simply thrown into landfills every day.
We thought that it would be such a pity to waste these capsules by letting them become harmful to the environment when they have so much more artistic potential. From June 2022 we gathered enthusiastic students ranging from primary to high school to be a part of this project – The Capsules. The focus of this project is not limited by schools but instead provides opportunities to a wider community audience.
During the past four months, we organized workshops that help students to design and create their own special art pieces from the Nespresso coffee capsules. We are so prideful and expressed by the extraordinary ideas and the hard efforts of all the children involved in this project. Now, it is time to present these wonderful art works to the public!
All art works will be for sale during the exhibition. Proceeds will be donated to Breast Cancer Foundation NZ to support the research on breast cancer.
