Come to the first-ever ThreadFest in Kaipātiki featuring a fabric swap run by Thread Lightly, plus workshops, demonstrations and light refreshments. A FREE event, run in partnership between the Kaipatiki Community Facilities Trust and Thread Lightly.

No registrations required. Workshops suitable for primary school-aged children and above.

Workshop programme:
11:00am – 12:00pm: Sew a gift bag
12:00pm –  1:00pm: Upcycle t-shirts into a rag rug
1:00pm –  2:00pm: Make no-sew fabric bunting
2:00pm –  3:00pm: Learn the art of creative mending (bring a well-loved item to repair)

Demonstrations throughout the day:
– Crochet with the Bayview Craft Mob
– Quilting with Rebecca Owen
– Embroidery with the North Shore Embroiderers Guild
– Knitting with Highbury House Knitting Connections

Never been to a fabric swap before? Here’s how it works:
–  Gather up any sewing or crafting supplies that you don’t want anymore: fabric, haberdashery (buttons, thread, zips, interfacing, etc.), patterns, wool, embroidery hoops, etc.
–  On 8 November, come to the Rawene Centre in Birkenhead with your donations, and enjoy browsing through what everyone else has donated, taking home the items that catch your eye and spark ideas for new projects. (Don’t have anything to donate? Doesn’t matter! Come along anyway.)
