Tūhono is an immersive light and sound installation celebrating Matariki in Britomart’s Takutai Square created by Arama Tamariki-Enua and Angus Muir Design.
Inspired by tukutuku panels and carved forms in Tumutumuwhenua, Ngāti Whātua Ōrākei’s whare tupuna ancestral house, Arama has created a series of dynamic projections onto the paved surface of the square, accompanied by a soundscape made in collaboration with Peter Hobbs.
The work runs in a seven-minute cycle, restarting every quarter-hour from 5pm-10pm every night until Wednesday 8 July.
No tickets or reservations are required, and everyone is welcome.
It’s a great place to begin your exploration of the Matariki light art trails in the central city: Tūhono, which runs from Te Komititanga through Takutai Square to Te Tōangaroa, and Tūrama, which runs up Queen Street. It’ll make for a school holiday night to remember.
