The tāhūhū of Matariki ki te Manawa returns to Queen Street. This award-winning FREE light installation by Graham Tipene, Ataahua Papa, and Angus Muir Design with Phil Wihongi traces the story of Waihorotiu, the historical waterway that flows beneath our feet, connecting past to present along the city’s busiest spine in Queen Street.
See the artworks:
- Horotiu
Te Atamira, Aotea steps - Manu Korokī
Outside Civic and St James - Kawau tikitiki
Queen St and Durham Lane - Kāhu Kōrako
Cnr Queen St and Wellesley St - Te Wehenga
Queen St and Shortland St
We think the best time to view the Tūrama light installations for families is between 6pm and 7:30pm, when it’s dark enough for the lights too shine, and not to late for younger children. Start at Shortland Street and walking up Queen Street to Aotea Square.
On daily from 30 Jun to 21 Jul 2026
Proudly supported by Auckland Council Events.
