DOC Toyota Kiwi Guardians launch event


Auckland Botanic Gardens, 102 Hill Road, Manurewa, Auckland

Join in a fun-filled day for families to celebrate the launch of DOC’s 100th Toyota Kiwi Guardians site. Kiwi Guardians is an activity programme for kids to learn about nature, earn cool rewards and go on epic family adventures. There will be heaps of activities on offer, prizes up for grabs, awesome displays and a chance to meet DOC’s Conservation Dogs!
Enjoy a free guided adventure walk, then apply for your medal at home. The first guided adventure walk starts at 10.45am so pack your gumboots and get ready for fun!

Ice Skate Tour


Red Beach Primary School, Whangaparoa, Auckland
Saturday 30 June 2018: 10:00am to 4:00pm

Be prepared for a cool but not cold ice skating experience. The Ice Skate Tour travels around New Zealand with state of the art, artificial ice rinks. They look like ice and have 97% same gliding capacity as natural ice. Surrounded by an inflatable boarding and helmets + gloves provided at no charge (both compulsory for kids) it’s the safest possible way to try ice skating.   MoreFM will complete the experience with their bubble machines and will have the music cranking. 

Prices: $8 for kids under 16, $12 for adults and $35 for a family pass (2 adults + 2 kids OR 1 Adult + 3 Kids) which includes ice skates, helmet, gloves and at least half an hour ice skating (longer if capacity allows).

Lights Out U18 Rave Teen event

The Winter Night Sky

Learn about the planets, stars and constellations that are visible in the night sky this winter in this presenter-led show. Sit back and relax in the high-back, reclined seats in the Stardome’s 360-degree immersive theatre.  After the show, you will get to look through courtyard telescopes if the weather is fine, or experience a special tour of the night sky through the Large Zeiss Telescope up in the dome.

Your winter wonderland in Aotea Square Ice Rink is back with a series of fun events. Skate or slide against the backdrop of downtown Auckland and experience the magic. For the first time, an Ice Bar will be open to all ages offering cocktails and yummy mocktails. Illuminated sculptures Pou Rama (light posts) will sit beside Aotea Square Ice Rink throughout Matariki Festival (Māori New Year).

Accelerate: Driving New Zealand

Delve into the past, present and future of New Zealand’s relationship with vehicles.  Accelerate brings a new perspective to the MOTAT road transport collection while exploring the technologies, social impacts, and culture associated with automobiles. It revisits some of the museum’s most cherished vehicles, whilst introducing new cars and the stories of the people who love them. This one’s for the petrol heads, tech enthusiasts, history buffs, and future thinkers alike.

Pou Rama

Pou Rama will illuminate the lower grass terrace of Aotea Square.  Pou Rama (Light Posts), features a series of free-standing light structures. Designed by Storybox, in collaboration with visual artist Desna Whaanga-Schollum (Rongomaiwahine, Ngāti Kahungunu, Ngāti Pahauwera). These are inspired by pouwhenua (land symbols of support) and represent creative wairua (inspiration), which is generated from te taiao (the environment). The whakairo designs express cycles of creativity and connections to place.
