The best places to go strawberry picking in Auckland

Here is our pick of the BEST places to take the kids strawberry picking in Auckland. Some of the Auckland strawberry farms are able to open safely to pick your own at “Red” too!

Sometimes the strawberry farms can be closed due to bad weather or lack of fruit, so you are best to ring to check they will be open on the day you are planning to go with your family. 

Remember to bring your hat and sunblock with you on warm days. 

Bells Berries

A sustainable pick your own strawberry farm. Bells Berries uses symbiotic planting and bio bugs as well as using seaweed and other natural fertilizers. Bring your own reusable containers when coming to pick! 

As well as growing berries they also offer delicious real fruit ice creams and  locally sourced Roma coffee.  Plus the kids can meet and feed the goat kids and lambs and play on the cute tractor theme playground.



Zaberri NZ

PYO from 18 November 2021 to late January 2022 from 9am to 5pm each day.
Under Traffic Light Orange visitors must be vaccinated if they are over 12 years old and wear a mask face covering.

Enjoy a fun day out picking your own strawberries and raspberries from December to late January each year. Entry is $5 per person to pick and eat. Kids under 5 years old are free. Plus you need to pay per kilo for the strawberries you pick to take home.  Visit the Real Fruit Cafe for ice cream and smoothies and take a free train ride around the farm. Plus there is ZaberriWorld inflatable fun the kids can enjoy for an additional charge.

If you are making it a full day out for the family, then check out Muriwai Beach or Bethells Beach which are only a 20 to 25 minute drive away from Zaberri!

Pick your own strawberries. Afterwards you can buy fruit ice cream and yoghurt, gelato, smoothies and coffee.

Cost: Entry fee is set at $8.50 per adult and the first kilo of strawberries is FREE.  All subsequent kilos are charged at $8.50 per kilo.  There is no entry fee for children under 12 when accompanied by a parent. You will be supplied with a bucket, but its a good idea to bring a hat and sunblock.


 

Sweet Red

The farm is over 40ha in size with 20 dedicated strawberry fields, you and your family can easily spend a fun day exploring the farm and finding the yummiest strawberries to pick. 

At the farm shop you can purchase real strawberry ice creams, smoothies and milkshakes  made from the “Sweet Red” strawberries.


 

Zaknich Farms Strawberry Gardens

125-127 Waitakere Road, Waitakere, West Auckland
Open daily from 9am to 4pm from 5 December 2021 until the strawberry season ends in 2022 (Zaknich Farms is closed on Christmas Day).

Strawberry fields in Waitakere owned by the Zaknich family, open for pick your own in summer. It is best to bring your own containers to pick into for transporting home securely, and to ensure they don’t turn into jam from the heat before you get home.

Cost: FREE entry and you pay per kilo for strawberries you pick.
