There are many interactions happening every minute in Cornwall Park involving the sun, plants, trees, insects and animals! This exhibition celebrates and delves a little deeper into these interesting encounters and explores how our ecosystem works.

The park’s ecosystem is unique – it is both self-contained and plays an integral role in the wider ecosystem of Tāmaki Makarau, the Auckland region. All life in the park is interconnected, from trees to birds to sheep to fungi, and everything plays its part.

Visit the Huia Lodge Discovery Hub to learn more about our ecosystem, how it works, what is happening and who is involved.  This is knowledge that will be be enjoyed by the whole family.

The exhibition is daily from Wednesday 4th March to Sunday 31st May, except for 15 March and 9 May when it will be closed.

Bring the whole family to celebrate the opening of Auckland’s newest destination for art lovers, the Didsbury Art Trail!

Experience larger-than-life public artworks from some of New Zealand’s top artists as you wind your way along picturesque coastline and through parks and playgrounds, taking in unique heritage sites along the way.

The walk is approximately 5km long and mostly flat boardwalk or graded gravel – perfect for scooters, cycles and prams. You can start at any point along the trail and do some or all of it.

There are loads of fun events scheduled to celebrate the opening, including kids’ activities, artists’ workshops, and plenty of ice cream and coffee stops along the trail. Plus, the popular Catalina Bay Farmers Market will be hosting their 10 year anniversary celebration on the waterfront. Located alongside cafes, restaurants and the Little Creatures microbrewery, it’s the perfect pitstop for hungry art lovers.

TAKE THE FERRY AND MAKE A DAY OF IT
You catch the ferry from the CBD directly to the Didsbury Art Trail at Hobsonville Point, and enjoy a scenic adventure on the water. Kids travel free on the weekends with a registered AT HOP card.

Using leaves and flowers found on the ground around the park, you can make your very own suncatcher to hang in a window for the sun to shine through!

Craft Corner is a do-it-yourself arts and crafts station inside Huia Lodge Discovery Hub that you can visit in throughout the day on the weekends.

Activities suitable for children aged 4 years and up , parent supervision required.

Viist the kid friendly VOYAGE TO AOTEAROA: TUPAIA AND THE ENDEAVOUR exhibition at Auckland Museum.

Jump on board this Pacific adventure where you can sail a va’a around the Society Islands, experience life as a sailor, and the charting of the coastline of Aotearoa.

You and your family can experience life as it was 250 years ago in our action-packed new exhibition. Immerse yourself in the sights and sounds of the world of Tupaia, the Tahitian navigator, high priest and artist, as he journeys on the Endeavour to Aotearoa New Zealand.

With three parts to this exhibition, each with child-friendly interactive activities, we feature the little-known story of Tupaia and the significant role he played in James Cook’s first voyage. Experience life as a sailor, navigate your vessel across the ocean, watch Tupaia’s paintings come to life, and more.

Summer school holidays – Quest of the Navigators activity
During the summer school holidays collect a map from the information desk  and follow the clues to discover what skills, tools and knowledge were used in the pre-digital age, while the kids and you explore the Museum galleries.

The exhibition is on until Sunday 15 March 2020.

This free all-ages workshop takes you through how to make biology-rich clay seed balls that provide food for pollinators, humans, soil, microbes and plants.

Clay seed balls have been used for thousands of years as an effective technique for both the growing of agricultural crops and re-greening large areas of land with trees, shrubs, wildflowers and vegetables.

In recent times, they have been popularised through the Guerrilla Gardening movement. Throw them out into a meadow, under used land or place them with loving intention into your garden beds, through exposure to the elements they will sprout into life and grow into an ecology that will strengthen and support all kinds of life.

You can also see the healthy soil/healthy water demonstrations at Silo Park, which highlight the building blocks of soil that makes it alive and thriving with diversity and in good relationship to support the well being of seeds, plants and flowers and hold water – the essential ingredient for all life!

Workshops start at 12PM and will run until 6, so bring your whānau and friends down to Silo Park for a great afternoon.

Join the amazing Circability team to play and learn circus skills like juggling, hula hoop, acrobatic, walking the tight wire or ride the unicycle. There will be something for everybody in your family to “have a go”. Our motto is “all ages, all abilities, all together”
