Auckland for Kids' tips for enjoying the Farmers Santa Parade with Kids
The Santa Parade is a fun experience to share as a family and is passed down by many Auckland families from generation to generation. Here are our six tips to prepare for a fun family outing to see the Parade.
1. Check the weather
Auckland weather in unpredictable and if it is raining heavily the event may be postponed to the rain date of Sunday 1st of December. Remember to pack hats and sun screen if its going to be a sunny day too.
2. Leave the car at home
With lots of families going to the Parade, parking in the city will be difficult and lots of the roads will be blocked off for the Parade. We recommend catching public transport on the day and catching a bus, train or ferry to get there. You can plan your trip using AT’s Journey Planner: https://at.govt.nz/bus-train-ferry/
3. Arrive early and bring something comfy to sit on
The Farmer’s Santa Parade is always popular with Auckland kids and families. You are best to get there an hour before the Parade starts and find a spot where your family can enjoy watching the parade. Bring cushions or blankets to sit on as it will be more comfortable than sitting on the footpath. If you bring foldable chairs remember to let another family with no chairs sit in front of you, as that way everyone can sit down and still see.
4. Pack some food and drinks
You will be there for a while as the Parade route is 1.8km long and takes an hour to pass you. Pack a lunch box for everyone, and remember to bring some water too. That way you won’t end up with hungry and tired kids by the end.
5. Enjoy the festive day
Have fun with your kids and enjoy the Christmas Parade.
6. Bring some gold coins
There will be a collection for Paralympics New Zealand so remember to bring a gold coin donation.
