Come and celebrate Matariki with EcoMatters and author/artist Emma Hinton in this contemplative children’s workshop. Join in this walk, linking ourselves with a string to symbolise our collective journey. Along the way, pause to add natural treasures to our thread. Upon returning, decorate recycled frames with the nine Matariki stars, using the connecting thread and weave in layers of colours to reflect each star.
The finished pieces will be exhibited at EcoMatters throughout the Matariki season. Next year EcoMatters will unwind the threads and repurpose the artwork in the garden, allowing the string to return to the earth. Then, they will create new stars for a fresh display.
Suitable for ages 5 years plus.
ABOUT THE ARTIST
Emma grew up flying on the wind, collecting treasures on her family farm in the Waikato. Becoming a mother, she wanted to share this with her daughter and connect with their whakapapa by learning Te Reo. ‘Finding Grace’ is her first picture book. She lives in Waitākere, Auckland.
